Is the reason you use a Topstitch 90/14 needle due to the silk fabric or do you use it for cotton as well?

I'm also curious as to why you use this needle. I've been using Embroidary needles...never thought to use Topstitch needle.

My dealer suggested it and I found it worked well and have stayed with it
